Concept

Icarus was originally developed as a live performance and later adapted into film. Inspired by Oscar Wilde’s reflection on the myth of Icarus, the work considers the impulse to rise towards something beyond oneself, despite the possibility of falling.

The myth is reinterpreted through an interaction between body and sound. The performer’s arm and leg positions are mapped to eight synthesizer parameters, allowing each movement to alter the intensity and texture of the sound in real time. Through this system, physical movement becomes both gesture and sonic control, translating the tension between ascent, risk and release into sound.

Body–Sound Interaction Test

Arm and leg movements were tracked and mapped to eight synthesizer parameters through TouchDesigner and Ableton Live. This test explores how physical movement can directly shape the intensity and texture of sound in real time.
